TOPIC: INNOVATIVE FINANCIAL PRACTICES FOR ENHANCED UNIVERSITY

The paper highlighted the various funding problems confronting university education in Nigeria. It further presented possible solutions for resource funding.
The speaker noted that the ranking of World Universities had experienced considerable decline based on the ranking of world universities published by THES. He explained that universities formerly in high positions have experienced a downturn. He also stressed that every institution wants to be tagged a World-Class University however they seem to lack the right drive to achieve such a fit.
He further stated that most universities have multiple avenues of funding relating it to their distinctive characteristics such as a highly qualified faculty, Excellence in Research, Quality teaching and Academic freedom.
He also emphasized that there should be a checklist at institutional level to guide the universities success rate.
The presenter also explained that the journey to the positive relevance of our university system is through a high level of deployed and developed teaching. He further explained that we have to look at where we are going to and how we are going to get there.
Using statistical data, the presenter noted that electricity is taking 50% of the total number of equipment in the hall resulting in the subsidization of the students’ accommodation.
He further stated that the solution to funding-problems of University education is the need of a resource planning money and a detailed database of projects.
In response to a question, he conclusively stated that the starting point to getting to the peak we want to achieve is through the Environment. Furthermore, it should be ensured that the government has adequate knowledge of what is happening.
