Biological Sciences Students enlightened on the limitless opportunities in the Oil Industry
In acquiring more knowledge about the oil industry, students of the Department of Biological Sciences have been enlightened on the connection between the Biological Scientist and the Oil industry. This was done at the monthly Departmental Seminar, held at the College of Science and Technology (CST) Conference Room.
The guest speaker, Project HSE Manager, Total Upstream Nigeria (TUPNI), Mr Mrabure Charles, in his presentation, “Biological Scientists and the Oil Industry: The Seamless Connection”, explained to the students the stages and procedures involved in oil processing as well as the diverse functions of Biologists in the oil industry.
Mr. Mrabure urged the students to make good use of their first-degree platform to enable them to have a broad base of knowledge, thereby fitting into different disciplines in the oil sector.
According to him, “Your first degree is a platform that gives you a broad base to direct, analyse, interact and fit into different aspects of the industry”.
The Head, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. E. E. J. Iweala, stated that the main motivation for the programme was Covenant University’s commitment to raising future leaders that will make an impression in the industry after graduation.
In his remarks, the Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Shalom Chinedu, said the University is not just for producing graduates but also for providing solutions to the problems in the society.
In attendance at the programme were lecturers and students of the Department of Biological Sciences.
