Unless and until the kidnapped Chibok School girls by Boko Haram Islamists are rescued, the campaigns, particularly on the social media, for their release would be considered unsuccessful.

This was the findings of a research work on “War Against Our Children’: Stance and Evaluation in #BringBackOurGirls Campaign Discourse on Twitter and Facebook,” carried out by Professor Innocent Chiluwa of the Department of Languages and General Studies at Covenant University and Presley Ifukor of the University of Muenster, Germany.

The report, published in Discourse and Society, SAGE, concluded that unless social media campaigns are followed up with the implementation of strategic action plans, the whole process would simply turn out to be mere Slacktivism.
