CIPM, Covenant University Sign Pact
Covenant University, on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).
While clarifying the reason for their visit, the President/Chairman of Council, CIPM Nigeria, Mr. Anthony Arabome, stated, “We are very delighted to be here to kick off this lofty, epoch making and groundbreaking initiative, which I hope will foster many more of its kind. I can tell you that we feel exactly as excited about this partnership as you are, which is why we are here to sign this pact.
“The CIPM-Covenant University collaboration, for us, is a recognition of the symbiotic relationship between our Institute as a professional body, and the University as a tertiary education institution. We believe we are positioned to feel the pulse of the market and the industry, and to work with esteemed institutions like yours, to design programmes that enable a seamless flow from the tertiary institutions through professional development and into the lifelong consistent development of young people. The essence of this relationship is to bridge the gap between the town and the gown,” He emphasized.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo stated, “Today is a great day in the history of our University, in reference to the MoU that we have just signed. Lending my voice to that of the President and Chairman of Council, CIPM; no doubt about it, there are gaps between the town and gown. And this is evident, going by the level of unemployability of our nation’s graduates. If your products cannot be employed, having stayed long in the university, it portends a bad sign for the future. It is even more important that this is coming at a time when the whole world is talking about ‘the knowledge economy,’ globalization. In a globalized economy, we are not ruled by a ‘quota system’ or ‘federal character,’ we are talking about competencies and skills.”
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo stated that Covenant University, being the number one University in Nigeria, West Africa and among the top 5% in the world, is set to become one of the best ten universities in the world by the year 2022.
He further said, “We take partnerships and collaborations seriously and we are looking for organizations and institutions that would aid us in realizing our goals. We believe that our partnership with CIPM will help us in realizing our goals. Covenant University is committed to raising a new generation of leaders and we trust that this would be in sync with what CIPM stands for. Ultimately, Nigeria will be better for it and we would be repositioning Africa and her work-force for development in all other areas.”
Also present at the event were the Dean, College of Business & Social Sciences, Professor Isaiah Olurinlola; Deputy Dean, School of Business, Dr. Iyoha; Deputy Dean, School of Human Resource Development, Professor Alao; HOD Business Management, Dr. Roland Worlu; Dr. Adeniji; Dr. Sholarin; Barr.
