CU Agog as Chancellor turns 60
The Covenant University campus was in a festive mood as activities marking the Chancellor, Dr. David Olaniyi Oyedepo’s 60th Birthday commenced with “Chancellor’s Night”, on Sunday, September 21, 2014. It was a night where various artistes rendered songs of praise to appreciate God’s faithfulness in what the Chancellor himself called “a privilege of life”.
Other activities slated for the week included the launch of the UN Global Report on Human Settlement (GRHS 2013) in honour of Dr. David Oyedepo, on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the African Leadership Development Centre of the University. The Guest of Honour and Director, Monitoring and Research Division, UN-HABITA, Professor Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka and other world leaders graced the occasion.
It should be remembered that Covenant University was the first educational institution in Africa to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UN body on July 19, 2011, and the first to launch the Report in Africa on October 18 of the same year.
The launch of the Global Report was followed immediately by an exhibition to showcase some of the University’s innovations from the Research and Development platform.
On Friday, September 26, was the launch of a special publication in honour of the Chancellor, titled “Leadership and Innovation in African’s Development Paradigm”. This was later followed same day by a Public Lecture titled “Fostering Psychological Adjustment: Pathways to National Wellness”, delivered by a renown professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology of the University, Professor Amos Alao.
Health Walk and community service were slated for Saturday 27th, which was the grand finale. The community service was organized under the auspices of Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CUCDIIC) and David Oyedepo Day of Service (DODOS) of the University’s Alumni Association.
The birthday service was hosted in the University Chapel while guests were received in a special tent on the play-ground of Covenant University Secondary School. Dignitaries from all walks of life graced the epoch making event.
A special thanksgiving service rounded off the week-long event on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the 50, 000 seats Faith Tabernacle, Canaan Land, Nigeria.
