CU, CIBN Inaugurates Degree Linkage Committee
Covenant University on Thursday, December 4, 2014 received officials from the Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), for the formal inauguration of a joint Degree Linkage Committee. The Committee was to drive the Associates of the Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (ACIBN) degree linkage programme in the University.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo appreciated the officials for their efforts to keep the partnership alive. He also stated that the relationship was something he was confident would see the light of day and congratulated the members of the joint Committee for having been given the opportunity to serve.
The Vice Chancellor went on to formerly inaugurate and announce the commencement of the Committee. He enjoined the members to be committed to harnessing available resources in order to make visible impacts that would affect the general public.
The Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, read out the terms of reference which includes that the Committee would ensure the full implementation of the provision of the MoU and develop a Quality Assurance Framework for effective implementation of same. Furthermore, he said, the Committee shall review the MoU provisions for positive amendments, hold quarterly committee meetings at the University premises, forward reports of the Committee’s activities to the University’s authority, with copies of such reports filed at the CIBN South West Zonal Office and other relevant matters that might be referred to the Committee from time to time.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the new committee, Dr. Ailemen Ikpefan, who is also the Head of Department of Banking and Finance, accepted the responsibility to serve as the Chairman of the Committee. He also promised that the Committee would keep to the terms of reference, fast-track all pending issues and discharge its duties to the best of its ability. Dr. Ikpefan also promised to refer all issues that are unresolvable by the Committee to the Managements of both organizations for solution.
In his remarks, the CIBN South Western Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Biodun Alarape appreciated the Management of Covenant University for the opportunity to work together in this capacity and also for the efforts to bring the partnership to a new level.
Later, in an interview with Dr. Ikpefan, he stated that there was need to bring CU students to a full awareness of the benefits of being associates of the CIBN. He said it had always been a challenge to drive student awareness. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that the involvement of CU Management through the Committee inauguration would make it mandatory for all students to be duly registered in order to have an edge in their career pursuits as they graduate.
Dr. Ikpefan also explained that the student registration would involve a little payment, but they would not need to take any of the ACIBN professional exams until they graduate. Also, he said, their student membership would put them ahead of their contemporaries who had no membership of the organization while in school. He further stated that employers always give preference to graduates who were already associates of the CIBN as at graduation.
Other members of the Associates of the Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (ACIBN) joint Committee include, Dr. Kehinde Adetiloye (CU Linkage Programme Coordinator); Dr. Adewale Osibanjo (Representative of the Vice Chancellor); Mr. Segun Sonubi (Group Head, Membership Services); Mr. Akin Morakinyo (Group Head, Capacity Building & Certification).
Also present at the occasion were, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye; the Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Akan Williams and members of the Directorate of Media and Corporate Affairs.
