CU Shines at Global Exhibition Event
- as Pet. Engine Student is Selected for an African Forum
Students of Petroleum Engineering Department have demonstrated capacity for global excellence in a major exhibition held in Delta State that had multinational oil companies in attendance. The event, the 13th Annual SPE Student Technical Conference and Exhibition (SPE-STCE) which took place from March 12 to 14, 2015 at The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurum, Delta State, had the Covenant Univserity representatives taking part in a variety of programmes, including quiz and paper contests.
The theme of the conference was “New Horizons: Technical Skills and Core Values for Young Engineers in a Dynamic Scenario”, which had the SPE Nigeria Council President, academics and experts of industry from Exxon Mobil, Schlumberger, and University of Benin. The conference was attended by 29 other universities across Nigeria.
The 10 students from Covenant University had the opportunity to interact with students from the twenty-nine other universities and also with officials from Energia Limited and Oildata Services Limited, who were on ground to offer career talk and advice to the participating students.
Specifically, the students took part in SPE Nigeria Council PetroQuiz XIII and 2nd African Regional PetroBowl Qualifier. The high point of the event was the outstanding achievement of Zainab Titus, a Petroleum Engineering student, who was selected to take part in the 2015 SPE Africa Region Student Paper Contest taking place in Kampala, Uganda on April 18th 2015. She would be presenting a paper on “Modification to the Jones Inflow Model for Production Optimization and Completion Efficiency by Turbulence Analysis”.
