Chancellor Demands More Commitment from New Professors
The Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has charged newly promoted Faculty members of the university to rededicate themselves to the discharge of their responsibilities as there is no end to going upwards.
He gave the charge on Friday, September 9, 2016, when he played host to the promoted faculty members in his conference room at the Living Faith Church Worldwide Secretariat in Canaan Land, Ota, Ogun State.
The promotion beneficiaries include: Professor Adedayo Inegbenebor, professor of Chemistry; Dr. Kehinde Adetiloye, Associate Professor of Banking and Finance; Dr. Adeniyi Adegbuyi, Associate Professor of Marketing; Dr. O.J Oyelade, Associate Professor of Computer Science; and Dr. G.I Olasehinde, Associate Professor of Microbiology.
Others are Dr. Abiola Babajide, Associate Professor of Banking and Finance; and Dr. Kehinde Oladele Joseph, Associate Professor of Marketing.
Speaking after the Covenant University Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, had presented the promoted faculty members to him, the Chancellor, Dr. Oyedepo, while describing the emergence of new professors as a tradition at CU, said he congratulated them from the bottom of his heart and prophesied that their new calling would be the most accomplished era in their careers.
“Every change in status demands more commitment,” said the Chancellor. “Your career is lifelong as long as one is committed to adding value. There will be no end to going upward.”
Reiterating that the advent of private universities in Nigeria was destined to fill a gap, as Covenant University in particular is well positioned to be part of rewriting the story of Nigeria as a people, Dr. Oyedepo prayed that the promoted faculty members will be among God ordained agents of change. High level discipline and commitment, he said, can get the university dons anywhere.
“I look forward to world renowned professors from Covenant University; you will bring global honour to Covenant University. Promoting God has brought honour your way; this is just the beginning,” he added.
Responding to the Chancellor’s exhortation, Professor Inegbenebor, expressed gratitude to Dr. Oyedepo and thanked him for the elevation. She attributed their accomplishments to the encouragement given by the Chancellor coupled with the wonderful environment at Covenant University. Vision 10:2022, she added, is a reality by the grace of God.
Dr. Olasehinde, who has spent 11 years at Covenant University, said she was glad to be alive to receive promotion and thanked the Chancellor for providing the platform to attain the feat. While also thanking the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Atayero, and his management team for completing the promotion exercise, Dr. Olasehinde promised she and her colleagues will not let the university down and will ensure the fulfillment of being one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shalom Chinedu; the Registrar, Pastor Olamide Olusegun; and the Deputy Director, Media and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Igban.
