The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Shalom Chinedu, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, made this known on Thursday, September 7, 2017, when representatives of ICAN paid a courtesy visit to the Management of the University.
Speaking at the occasion, the Team Leader of the four-man ICAN delegation, Dr. (Mrs.) Sola Ajibolade, said that ICAN in a bid to make its academic conference a resounding success had resolved to always hold the event in collaboration with a university.
She stated that having been encouraged by the success of the 3rd edition of the academic conference hosted by the University of Lagos, ICAN had decided to offer Covenant University the opportunity of hosting the 4th edition.
“The natural choice was Covenant University because it is the foremost private university in Nigeria. ICAN Council approved that we approach Covenant University for the hosting right, and also for us to look at the available facilities,” said Dr. Ajibolade.
ICAN’s relationship with Covenant, she said, has been excellent with the professional body having quite a number of its members at the University. She added that, in furtherance of its mandate, ICAN sees members in the academia as important and the institute should maintain relationship with them.
The Registrar, Covenant University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oladayo, in his remarks, said that the University’s vision of becoming one of the top 10 universities in the world in the next few years had informed the collaborations it has with many organisations, stressing that the one with ICAN is one of those that will lead the University to the vision.
In his comments, the Dean, College of Business and Social Sciences, Professor Philip Alege, appreciated the gesture by ICAN to offer the conference’s hosting right to Covenant University, while the Head, Department of Accounting, Dr. Olubukunola Uwuigbe, noted that the academic conference is in line with the University’s vision. She further expressed enthusiasm that it’s going to be the benchmark for future conferences.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shalom Chinedu, said that ICAN has made the right choice by offering Covenant University the hosting right for the 4th Academic Conference, and assured that the University will work towards making it ICAN’s best ever conference by putting the University’s exquisite facilities at the body’s disposal.
Also at the meeting were the Director, Financial Services, Pastor Sunday Abayomi; immediate past Head, Department of Accounting, Dr. Uwalomwa Uwuigbe, including some members of faculty and staff of the department.
