Covenant University Appoints New Principal Officers

Covenant University’s Board of Regents (the highest decision making body) has ratified the appointment of some new Principal Officers for the 2015/2016 Academic Session.

This was announced on Friday, July 31, 2015 by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, at a separate meeting with the out-going Principal Officers, Directors, Deans of Colleges, Deputy Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments, and at the University’s general assembly for Faculty and Senior Non-Teaching Staff.

Among the new officers is the Registrar, Pastor Olamide Olusegun, who takes over from Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo. Before his appointment, Pastor Olusegun was in the top-level management at the Covenant Micro Finance Bank (CMfB), the University’s community bank.

Also appointed is the new Director, Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladehinbo, who replaces Pastor Deji Okubanjo. Pastor Oladehinbo was the Special Assistant on Finance to the President, Living Faith Church Worldwide and Chancellor of the University, Dr. David Oyedepo. Pastor Azubuike Nwoke is taking over from Architect Gbenga Alalade as the Director, Physical Planning and Development (PPD). Until his appointment, Pastor Nwoke was the Director, Covenant University Construction Agency, CUCA.

Mr. Azubuike Ezenwoke will hand over the Deanship of Students’ Affairs to the former Chairman of the Faculty Support Committee, Dr. Zacchaeus Omogbadegun, while Pastor Charles Ehekwaba takes over from Pastor Promise Omidiora as the new Chaplain of the University.

New Deans were also appointed to oversee the affairs at the college level. The hitherto Dean, College of Science and Technology (CST), Professor Shalom Chinedu, has been moved to the School of Postgraduate Studies to replace Professor Charles Ogbulogo, who is now the Dean, College of Leadership Development Studies (CLDS).

Newly promoted Professor Francis Iyoha takes over from Professor Oluranti Olurinola as the Dean, College of Business and Social Sciences (CBSS). Also, the newly promoted Professor Nicholas Omoregbe is the new Dean of College of Science and Technology, while Professor John Ndueso takes over from Professor Cleophas Loto in the College of Engineering (CoE).

The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the hitherto Schools structure would no longer be in place. The former Deputy Deans of Schools are now replaced with the Sub-Deans of Colleges. The Sub-Deans are Professor Samuel Oloyede (School of Postgraduate Studies), Dr. Oluwole Iyiola (College of Business and Social Sciences), Professor Innocent Chiluwa (College of Leadership Development Studies), Professor Albert Adeboye (College of Science and Technology) and Dr. David Omole (College of Engineering).

Some Heads of Departments were also appointed to stir the affairs of the departments. They include Dr. Henry Okodua, who takes over from the newly promoted Professor Phillip Alege in the Department of Economics and Development Studies, while Dr. O. Ibietan takes charge of affairs in the Department of Political Science and International Relations.

Dr. J. Owolabi takes over from Professor Ishola Fagbenle, in the Department of Building Technology; Professor Adesola Ajayi replaces Professor Emeka Iweala in the Department of Biological Sciences; while Dr. David Olukanni takes over from Dr. S. Ogbiye in the Department of Civil Engineering. Others are Dr. Vincent Efeovbokhan (Chemical Engineering), Dr. Oluseyi Ajayi (Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Paul Anawe (Petroleum Engineering) and Dr. A. Owoloko (Mathematics).

New directors and managers of centres and units were also appointed. Professor T. Wara is the Director, Centre for Research, Innovation and Discovery (CUCRID) while Dr. Olawande Daramola is the new Director, Academic Planning Unit (DAPU). Dr. Omotayo Osibanjo takes charge of International Office and Linkages (IOL) as Director while Mr. Yinka Adeboye is the Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services (CSIS).

Dr. O. Adegbuyi returns to the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies (CEDS) as Director while Dr. A. Odukoya is the new Director, Centre for Life Long Learning. Professor Christian Bolu takes charge of the newly created Directorate of Vision 10:2022 and Professor Oluwole Obembe is the pioneer Manager, Industry Partnership.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, appreciated the outgoing officers for the selfless service they rendered while in office. He particularly appreciated the three Covenant University Eagles (graduates of the University) who served in leadership capacity. They are the outgoing Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, Dean, Students’ Affairs, Mr. Azubuike Ezenwoke and Director, Physical Planning and Development, Architect Gbenga Alalade, noting that they are worthy ambassadors of the University.
