Covenant University Becomes Autodesk Authorised Training Centre
Covenant University has moved another step towards her quest for world class status even as Autodesk, a world leading software manufacturer has authorised the University as one of the certified training centres
By this, the University has become the first private University and one of the two Universities in Nigeria so certified by Autodesk. It is also one of the 2000 Autodesk Authorised Training Centres (ATC’s) and Authorised Certification Centres (ACC’s) around the world. Covenant University was accredited by Autodesk as one of its ATC and ACC in June and September respectively.
The Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Christian Bolu who received the certificate on behalf of the University presented the document of Authorisation and the plaque to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan and other members of the Management team on Tuesday 11, 2011.
Dr Bolu explained that seven of the faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering have also been accredited by Autodesk to teach and therefore Covenant University students would now receive the official Autodesk certificate of attendance after the completion of the courses with the Autodesk courseware.
He added that, “to further improve the employability of our graduates, we plan to encourage the students to take the Autodesk international certification, for which the University is a centre”.
The Head of Department also outlined other benefits accruable to the Department and by extension, the University at large. These include: Downloadable Autodesk software at no extra cost, early admission to Beta versions of the software, Autodesk ATC branded course completion certificate for Covenant University students and webcasts on business and staff development topics among others.
These benefits according to him would impact greatly on the teaching quality in the University. “Autodesk world-class software and courseware will greatly enhance the quality of the computer aided engineering design technology courses”, he stated.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan expressed delight that the prophecy stated by the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo at the University’s first Matriculation in 2003, that Covenant University by it 10th year would be one of the world-class Universities, is being fulfilled before our very eyes.
She was equally excited that Covenant University is one of the few certified training centres in Africa and particularly in Nigeria. She said that Nigerians would not need to travel to South Africa before they could be trained in Autodesk. Professor Aize Obayan likened the accreditation of the University as Autodesk centre with the scripture in Isaiah 2:2, adding that Covenant University is that mountain where all nations would flow into.
The Vice-Chancellor received the certificate and plaque on behalf of the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo and appreciated Dr Bolu and his team for the great strides recorded.
