Covenant University Hosts International Bioinformatics Workshop
About 30 Postgraduate students and five resource persons from 12 countries of the world are currently participating in the on-going International workshop on Bioinformatics hosted by Covenant University, Ota.
The workshop which commenced on Monday, April 21, 2014 is slated for five weeks and will end on Monday, May 26, 2014.
Postgraduate students from across the world who specialise in Biology, Computer Science, Medical Science, Bioinformatics among others and also resource persons from Computer and Information Science Department of Covenant University, South Africa, Canada, and Australia are exchanging ideas in a workshop sponsored by H3ABioNet (National Institute of Health).
While addressing the participants at the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Charles Korede Ayo stated that the University was delighted to have the visitors from various part of the world on her campus.
He stated further that though the workshop was not the first to be hosted by the institution, but it gives him great joy that the current workshop came up at a time when the University is passionately driving the vision to be one of the 10 leading universities in the world tagged “Vision 10:2022, One of 10 in 10”.
He therefore advised the students to optimise the opportunity as scholars so as to return to their various destinations empowered because the idea of collaboration is very important for developing countries.“It’s nice to have you around” he said.
On the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Taiwo Abioye and the Registrar, Mr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo.
