Covenant University Impresses ISELLI 2 Conference Participants
Participants at the 2nd International School of Equatorial and Low Latitude Ionosphere Conference (ISELLI-2), hosted by Covenant University, have poured encomiums on the University and its Management for the quality of environment, infrastructure, equipment and the caliber of students and faculty at the University.
Lecturers from different institutions of higher learning, both within and outside Nigeria, were on Thursday, September 14, 2017, during a courtesy visit to the Management of Covenant University, unanimous in their opinions that the University is a wonderful ivory tower.
Leader of the visiting team and also one of the Directors of ISELLI, Professor Babatunde Rabiu, said that participants had come to Covenant University to perform a research study that has direct impact on all aspects of life and, according to him, being on the University campus since the start of the conference has been awesome. “We have been privileged to enjoy the warm hospitality of this community and the essence of this visit is to say thank you for hosting this conference,” he said.
A faculty from Boston College, the United States, Dr. Eindawoke Yizengaw, expressed surprise that a University established in 2002 had become the best private university in Nigeria in a short space of time. He said that with what he has witnessed, Covenant University has the capacity to achieve its vision of becoming one of the best universities in the world.
Speaking in similar vein, Professor Kazuo Shiokawa and Ms. Nada Ellahouny, from ISEE Nagoya University, Japan and the Space Weather Centre, Egypt, respectively, acknowledged Covenant University as a very good campus. Both, while admitting their fascination with what an African university like Covenant has to offer, said that they were inspired by its Core Values.
Also, Professor Olivier Obrou from the Universite FAS Cocody in Ivory Coast, who said that he had already seen a documentary on Covenant University before visiting, described students of the University as very polite and hoped that other African universities can replicate what obtains at Covenant.
Having been to many universities, Dr. Phani Chandrasertroy, a Scientific Officer from India, said that Covenant University is a great university with its students already looking like professionals, while Dr. Elijah Falayi from the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State, said that, “I’m a fan of Covenant University, it’s an amazing citadel of learning. I give kudos to the management of the University”.
In her comments, the Head, Department of Physics, Covenant University, Dr. Mojisola Usikalu, thanked participants at the ISELLI-2 conference for visiting the University and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for approving the hosting of the event. She said that ISELLI is a capacity building school, which is one of the core values of Covenant University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, in his remarks, said that since the University has a vision of becoming one of the top 10 universities in the world in the next few years, it could not but play host to events such as the ISELLI. He assured the lecturers that the University would be glad to host the conference annually.
With international partnership being a focus of the University, Professor Atayero urged the lecturers to ensure that their institutions forge a collaboration with Covenant University.
Also at the meeting were the Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr. David Omole, and a former Head, Department of Physics, Dr. Victor Omotosho.
