Covenant University Inaugurates New Students’ Council

The New Covenant University’s Students’ Council for the 2010/2011 Academic Session has been inaugurated. The inauguration took place at the University Faculty Fellowship Hall penultimate Friday. The new Council members were also presented to the entire student body at a Sunday service.

At the public presentation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan, stated that leadership was a serious business at Covenant University, adding that it is not about holding an office, but about service.

She observed that the selection process was very rigorous, particularly for the sixth batch, but likened it to the creation story when God completed His work on the sixth day and believed that the University has entered into its rest.

She said: “This is not a choice of man but of God. When He calls you, He anoints you. For everyone selected, it is a call of God to serve. A call to a new order and the grace to function is released upon you.”

Professor Obayan also appreciated the previous Executive Council led by Mr. Noah Olaibi describing the members as open and teachable. She congratulated them on having introduced new ideas and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Also speaking at the presentation, the Registrar, Dr. Daniel Rotimi, enjoined the student body to co-operate with the new Executive Members saying: “We have not brought together a crop of mediocre people. They are ones that have academic repute and moral uprightness.”

He stated that this was the first time a lower level student (200L) would be a core executive Member of the Council. This according to him was to carry them along in decision making.

In a comment, the immediate past Chairman of the Council, Mr. Noah Olaibi appreciated the Management of the University for the opportunity to serve. He was also thankful to the students for their co-operation given hims and his team.

In his acceptance speech, the new Council Chairman, Mr. Omoraro George Okeoghene, a 300 Level Mass Communication student congratulated the previous council members and promised to lead the Students’ Council aright.
