Covenant University Ota and Systems Application and Products (SAP), a Germany based leading software manufacturer has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and launched the SAP Corporate Masters Programme in the University.

The event took place on February 2, 2012 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.

In his presentation at the launch, the Director, SAP Education, South Africa, Mr. Johann Pretorius stated that the University would benefit from the platform in providing connections with the University’s Management, students, SAP customers and partners and SAP internal experts.

He added that the global employability of Covenant University graduates would be greatly enhanced as Faculty tap into SAP’s Advanced Curricula, technologies and academic research. Also, there would be great support to the learning effort to offer custom-tailored courses and projects which develop highly qualified graduates with skills for the 21st century workforce.

Speaking at the programme, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan said the collaboration would further improve the visibility of Covenant University and the global employability of its graduates in line with the University’s vision of raising a new generation of leaders.

She added that the collaboration would further enhance the in-depth knowledge and world-class skills of Engineering students through the curricula design with a very strong vocational and professional emphasis as well as practical industrial and research based projects.

Professor Obayan said the occasion was a “defining and historical moment for Covenant University”. She added that, “In line with the University’s vision, this is another way of expanding the frontiers we have held dear for a long time. There is a need to walk the path of relevance. We are right on the vanguard of seeing a new world emerge in Covenant University. The best is still to come”.

Also speaking at the event, the General Manager, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Bola Afolabi, advised that the programme should be taught across all courses and should not just be limited to Engineering courses alone.

The CEO of Serve Consult Limited, Mr. Deola Adejuyigbe said that SAP Corporate Master’s Programme provides an opportunity to build more global citizens and work force. He added that it would give the University the opportunity for recognition. He also assured the University Management that his organization was ready to partner with it on Information Technology. It is worthy to note that a Covenant University student who served in the company for industrial training qualified with the SAP certification and had to be offered a job by the company even before graduation.

Systems Application and Products is the world’s largest enterprise application software company. It is the world’s third largest independent software manufacturer. Founded in 1972, SAP has its headquarters in Walldorf, Germany.

Present at the launch were Captains of industries and Academics among whom were Mr Ram Partha Sarajer, Managing Director Tower Aluminum, Engineer (Mrs.) Akingbagbohun O.A, Chairperson of Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Kehinde Aluko, IT Manger, Dormanlong Engineering and Dr O. David-Wesy of Lagos Business School.

The event was also graced by some Principal Officers of the University including the Deputy-Vice, Professor Charles Ogbulogo, Registrar, Elder J. N. Taiwo, Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Christopher Awonuga, Dean, College of Development Studies, Professor Kayode Soremekun, Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Kofi Hymore, University Chaplain, Pastor David Bamigboye, Director, International Office and Linkages, Dr Nnamdi Ekeanyanwu, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Chris Bolu, among others.
