Covenant University Receives NIMN Accreditation Certificate

The accreditation certificate of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) was officially presented to Covenant University on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. The Registrar of the Institute, Mr. Sidney Ogodo, presented the certificate to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo in his office.

While presenting the certificate, Mr. Ogodo recognised the commitment of the University to the growth of the profession. He said, “One of the mandates of the Institute which was set up by the Act of the Parliament is to accredit Marketing programmes in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. And Covenant University was the first institution in Nigeria to come on-board when we call for accreditation. This gives us the idea of how serious the University is with the programme.”

Mr. Ogodo also noted the cordial relationship between the institutions in the advancement of the Marketing profession. “Another reason for our visitation is to extend the Institute’s gratitude to the University and to renew the relationship so that both institutions can advance the profession of Marketing in Nigeria.”

The NIMN’s Registrar explained further that the Institute endorses the marketing competence, skill and knowledge of the graduates, which gives them edge over others in the labour market. He, therefore, requested for more support from the University.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayo, assured the Registrar of the commitment of the University to the ideal and goals of the Institute and promised that the University would always be part of the programmes organised by the Institute.

He advised the Marketing professionals to build capacity in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). “If the professionals are able to get themselves well skilled in the area of ICT, it would be an edge over those who may not have seen the four walls of any university and are making lots of money through on-line marketing,” he advised.

Professor Ayo thanked the Institute for the extension of the validity period of the accreditation certificate to five years, noting that this would give the University an ample opportunity to bring up new ideas to develop the programme before re-accreditation. “By the time you will come again for re-accreditation, it would be a different ball game entirely,” he promised.

It would be recalled that Covenant University was awarded full accreditation status last year July. The Institute in a letter to the University stated that, “The full accreditation was the consequence of the very successful Accreditation Exercise conducted by the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) in which the Department of Business Administration of your reputable university performed excellently well, scoring 72% in the twenty (20) criteria used in the assessment. Congratulations, as we wish you greater feats in your effort to take Covenant University to greater heights.”
