Covenant University Sports Team Dominates Friendly Inter-Varsity Competition
In a bid to promote friendship through sport, Covenant University sport team, engaged their Babcock University counterpart in a friendly inter-varsity sports competition that took place in Babcock University sports complex at Ilishan Remo, Ogun State on October 1, 2015.
Covenant University emerged top in the competition after the male and female students from both institutions battled for supremacy in six different events including Football, Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball and Basketball.
Some of the results of the friendly competition saw Covenant University’s Football team draw with Babcock Football Team 3-3. In the Male's 4x100 relay race and 1,500m, Covenant University team came 1st while in Table Tennis (male and female) Covenant University defeated their opponents in all the games played.
After the victory, Covenant University Sport Coach, Mr. John Obogo, praised the team for an excellent outing commenting that “the team played well and the University is proud of them.” He stated that the friendly competition was a way of promoting unity through providing an avenue in which students can interact. “More importantly, the Total Man Concept objective to access the total make-up of man has been achieved through this process,” he continued.
In addition, the Student Council Sport Coordinator, Udensi Onyebuchi in his words thanked God for the victory over their rivals, adding that the victory was expected due to the rigorous training the team had engaged in, in order to outshine their opponent. In his words, 'We thank God for the victory over Babcock University because we went prepared, and determined and got what we desire”.
The summary of the event saw Covenant University with fifteen wins, a draw and four losses, while Babcock University had just four wins, a draw and fifteen loses.
