Covenant University Validates Vision, Appoints New Generation of Leaders
Ten years after her establishment and barely seven years after she produced her first set of graduates, Covenant University has again proved the viability of her Vision, Founding Philosophy and Core Values.
At the first anniversary in 2003, the Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo who is also the President of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (the proprietor base of the University), had declared that by the tenth year of the University, some of her graduates would be occupying key administrative positions in the royal institution.
On Monday, August 5, 2013, just two months before the University’s Eleventh year, some of her pioneer graduates were appointed into the key offices in the University, including the Office of the Registrar, Dean, Director and Chaplaincy, thereby fulfilling the prophecy declared 10 years earlier.
The new Chief Administrative Officer of the University (Registrar) is Mr. Olumuyiwa Fadugba, while Architect Gbenga Alalade will be directing affairs at the Directorate of Physical Planning and Development, (PPD). Mr. Azubuike Ezenwoke occupies the position of the Dean, Students’ Affairs while, Dr. (Mrs.) Ada-Sonia Peter is the new Chaplain and Pastor Stephen Ogah takes over the affairs at the Directorate of Centre for Systems and Information Services (CSIS).
Considering the antecedence of these young men and woman, it is crystal clear that they are not put in these esteemed offices by the Board of Regents of the University just to prove the validity of the earlier declaration by the Chancellor.
The Registrar, Mr Olumuyiwa Fadugba is a pioneer graduate of the University from the Department of Business. He studied Human Resource Management. He returned to the University to take up a teaching appointment despite various offers from companies including Spring Bank Plc among others.
He has scored many firsts. He was the pioneer Chairman of Student Council, the equivalent of the Student Union Government in the public universities. In October 2010, he was appointed the Dean, Student Affairs thereby becoming the first graduate of the University to occupy such position.
Mr Fadugba is the pioneer President of Covenant University Alumni Association, the position he occupied from inception up till the end of 2012. At 32, he is the fifth substantive and the youngest person to occupy the position of the Registrar in the University. He is a member of some professional associations including, Nigerian Institute for Training and Development, Learning and Development Network International and International Institute for Global Leadership.
The new Registrar is on the verge of completing his Ph.D with research interest in Leadership, Change Management, and Work/Life Balance. In a recent interview, Mr Fadugba stated that his course of study and various positions he had occupied, coupled with lessons from the pioneer Registrar, Pastor Yemi Nathaniel has given him much experience needed to excel in the new office.
Mr Azubuike Ezenwoke was also the Chairman of the Student Council in his third year in the university. He graduated with First-Class Honours in Computer Science and was employed in the University as a Research Fellow. He is presently on his PhD programme.
The new Chaplain of the University, Dr. (Mrs) Ada-Sonia Peter, also a pioneer graduate from the Department of Mass Communication, is actually one of the few pioneer graduates of Covenant University that recently bagged Ph.D from the University. She has been associated with the Chaplaincy right from her days as student. Until this new appointment, she was the Associate Chaplain. By this new position, she becomes the first female to occupy the exalted office.
Architect Gbenga Alalade is not new in the Office of the Director of Physical Planning and Development (PPD), a position other institutions call Director of Works. Architect Alalade is also a pioneer graduate of Covenant University in the Department of Architecture. He returned to the University for his Doctorate Degree after his NYSC in 2009.
He was Director of PPD for 18 months between 2011 and 2012 thereby becoming the first graduate of the University to head such a vast directorate. He was later redeployed to head same position under the proprietor base. He designed and supervised massive projects including estates and presently, the exterior beautification of Faith Tabernacle, the largest church auditorium in the world.
Pastor Stephen Ogah has been tested and proven as a Personal Assistant to the President, Living Faith Church Worldwide, in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). He is a pioneer student of the University. He studied ICT and will be taking charge as the Director of the Centre for Systems and Information Services.
The “Eagles” as they are fondly called are not only taking charge within the University, they are also making waves in every sector of the economy both within and outside the country. By these various appointments and exploits of her products all over the world, Covenant University has not only fulfilled the prophecy or actualised the philosophy, but has also validated her Vision of Raising a New Generation of Leaders.
