Running on the vision of raising a new generation of leaders, Covenant University has kicked off Covenant University Women Development Centre (CUWDC) Project at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies, with the aim of empowering over a hundred women within the institution’s environs to develop skills that would make them play significant roles in the society.

In her opening remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, represented by an Associate Professor from the Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Abiodun Adebayo, said that the main aim of the project was to educate women to be responsible and be able to make impact in the community.

In her words, “The University is committed to raising leaders that will be impactful in national development and through this project, Covenant University is set to empower, train and stir up the gifts in women that will give them a voice in the society”.

The Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, in his welcome remarks, said that the women development project was born out of the University’s passion to compliment the efforts of the government in entrepreneurship and to fulfill the mandate of the Proprietor-base to liberate mankind from all oppressions of the devil such as poverty, idleness, etc.

“The Covenant University Women Development Centre (CUWDC) Project is established to compliment the efforts of the government, where the University is able to close the gap between the government and the public i.e. those that cannot be reached by the government,” he said.

Welcoming the participants, The Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Development Studies, Dr. Chinonye Moses emphasized the vision and mission of the Centre, saying that it was in line with the Millennium Development Goals. The aim was to unleash the potential in every individual to make him/her productive and contribute significantly towards national development.

“The main thrust of the Center is to develop entrepreneurial spirit, skills and knowledge in the students of Covenant University and others in the external context so as to empower them to become wealth creators. We also aim to empower the entire community in a bid to alleviate poverty in its entire ramification.
