Covenant University keeps Soaring in Webometrics Ranking


Covenant University has continued to validate its leading position among the private and public universities in Nigeria. In the just released Webometrics Ranking of World Universities on February 4, 2016, the university emerged overall best private university and second overall best among all universities in the country. In addition, the university emerged first position in the Repository ranking in Nigeria and West Africa.

On the current university ranking, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, attributed the success to God’s grace and noted the various contributions from faculty, staff and students. While speaking at the Tuesday Chapel Service of February 9, 2016, the Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Dr. David Oyedepo and other members of the Board for their constant support toward the realisation of “Vision 10:2022.”

“We are not there yet but with the current standing, we are sure of attaining the Mandate even before the set date,” he said, as he encouraged everyone not to rest on their oars.

A look at the various parameters in the ranking shows that the quality of academic delivery made Covenant University came top among other private universities in Nigeria and West Africa. Other parameters include Web Presence, Impact, Openness and Excellence Rankings.

The result is a validation of the University’s quest to become one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022 tagged, “Vision 10:2022, (1 of 10 in 10).

Webometrics is the largest ranking agency for Higher Education Institutions in the world, with over 25,000 institutions listed worldwide. The constant factors considered in the ranking are impact, presence, openness and excellence. Both the Webometrics and Repositories ranking are initiatives of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body and one of the foremost basic research organisations in the world.
