Covenant University makes historic visit to Fayetteville State University, North Carolina, USA
A Covenant University delegation led by the Director, International Office and Linkages, Dr. Nnamdi Ekeanyanwu made a historic visit to Fayetteville State University (FSU), Fayetteville, USA to follow up on the forthcoming Summer Exchange program involving about 45 Covenant University students who will be spending their summer at FSU campus at North Carolina, USA. Dr. Charles Iruonagbe, a developmental sociologist from the Department of Sociology, Covenant University, was also part of the delegation.
Dr. Ekeanyanwu who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan at the occasion carried her message of love to the partner University for driving an active partnership with Covenant University since 2009. She said the relationship with FSU has been a most enduring active collaboration and noted Fayetteville State University’s commitment since the MOU was signed in driving the collaboration through the regular sending of American students to do their Study Abroad program at Covenant University.
The corporate visit to FSU was basically for three major reasons: pay a corporate visit to FSU to reaffirm Covenant University’s commitment to the full implementation of the MOU entered into in 2009; meet with FSU top Management including the Chancellor as well as the Program Officials and Assistants for the Summer Exchange program involving about 45 students from Covenant University and two Faculty members; and for the Director, International Office and Linkages, Covenant University to make a seminar presentation as a Guest Speaker at a Luncheon to Welcome Covenant University to Fayetteville State University. The Vice-Chancellor’s representative, Dr. Nnamdi Ekeanyanwu spoke on the “Role of the Media in Education in Nigeria and the Perception of Nigerian Higher Education by Other Countries”.
The highpoint of Dr. Ekeanyanwu’s presentation was on the role the Covenant University base has played as a rescue mission in higher education context in Africa. Dr. Ekeanyanwu noted that Covenant University’s entrance into the higher education platform in Nigeria has changed the equation and the nation’s fortune with emphasis on character and spiritual development of staff members, faculty and students as core values that must drive national and leadership development in Africa as well as help to restore the dignity of the black man and Africa’s lost glory.
The top Management team of Fayetteville State University led by the Chancellor, Dr. James Anderson, was present at the Luncheon. Other top Management team members in attendance include two Vice-Chancellors, many Deans of Colleges, Directors of Programs and Directorates, Departmental Chairs, Faculty members, non-teaching staff members, and selected students. Professor Daniel Okunbor, Director, S.T.E.M. program at FSU facilitated the visit.
The Chancellor of FSU, Dr. James Anderson reiterated his commitment to growing the partnership with Covenant University. He also extended his University’s love and best wishes
to the Chancellor of Covenant, Vice-Chancellor and members of the Covenant University community and promised that the students for the Summer Exchange program will be warmly received. He also reaffirmed the point made by the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Aize Obayan on growing the partnership and noted publicly that after China, Covenant University, Nigeria is its biggest viable partner of repute. The Chancellor promised to visit Covenant University with a team from FSU next summer.
Part of the benefits of Covenant University’s visit to Fayetteville State University is that some reputable Faculty members of FSU have agreed to spend between 3weeks and a month at Covenant University as Visiting Professors. The Director, International Office and Linkages extended the invitation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor as part of the University’s efforts to head hunt international faculty of repute into its faculty base. Dr. Ekeanyanwu also met with the Director, International Programs of FSU, Dr. Yunkai Chen to facilitate students’ mobility programs, PG Admissions etc. This is yielding positive results. The IOL can now directly link up with FSU to process graduating students request for PG placement at FSU.
