Covenant University may soon begin Project Management courses in partnership with the Project Management Institute (PMI). This is a hint emanating from discussions between the University’s management and Dr. Yemi Oyekoya of Canada Executive Management and Professional Centre.

Dr. Oyekoya and his team on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo and other members of the University management to discuss modalities for the actualisation of the partnership.

He explained that his organization had on behalf of Covenant University discussed with the leadership of PMI and assured that the University would be licensed to run the courses.

“What brought us here? We want to make sure that Covenant University is the first university in Africa to issue degree and postgraduate certificates in Project Management. Lots of people are traveling out to obtain certificate in Project Management but when Covenant University is licensed, they would start coming here,” he explained.

Dr. Oyekoya added that Covenant University would be licensed as Registered Education Provider by PMI which would make it the first university in Nigeria to have it. “Covenant University has been known to be a pathfinder, and by the grace of God, the license will be given to the University. We would be proud to work with Covenant University to help achieve your objective of being ranked among the world’s top 10 universities by year 2022,” he promised.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayo, noted that lots of abandoned projects abound in many educational and other government institutions due to lack of experience in Project Management. “This is just one course that is needed by all.” He then promised to work with Dr. Oyekoya and his team.

Also at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladehinbo; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Nicholas Omoregbe; Director, Vision 10:2022, Professor Christian Bolu; HOD, Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Oluseyi Ajayi; HOD, Business Management, Dr. Rowland Worlu; HOD, Accounting, Dr. Uwalomwa Uwuigbe; HOD, Computer and Information Sciences, Dr. Ariyo Adebiyi; Administrative Officer, Vision 10:2022, Mr. David Omokore and members of Media and Corporate Affairs.
