Covenant University to host 35th NSBMB Annual Conference
The Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) has given Covenant University the hosting rights for its 35th annual conference which comes up between Tuesday, November 1 and Friday 4, 2016, at the Conference Hall of the African Leadership Development Centre (ALDC) of the University. With the hosting right, Covenant University has become the first private university in Nigeria to host the conference in the history of the Society.
According to a statement released by the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Professor Emeka Iweala, the Conference, with the theme: “Catalyzing National Development through Biochemistry and Molecular Biology," will parade notable biochemists and speakers including the Director-General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Elemo; former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri and Prof. Akintunde Akindahusi among others.
The highpoint of the event, which is the Olumbe Bassir Guest Lecture, the statement noted, would be delivered by Prof. Lawrence Ezeanyika of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The conference will also feature for the first time, a pre-conference hands-on-training workshop on Gene expression analysis.
Aside from Keynote presentation and the opportunity to learn new research techniques and skills as well as build effective research collaborations, the Conference attendees, according to the Chair, LOC, would be exposed to plenary sessions and scientific paper presentations covering interesting topics in all areas of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology including: Nutrition; Food; Medicinal Plants; Microbial Biochemistry; Biochemical Toxicology and Pharmacology; Biomembranes; Xenobiochemistry; Enzymology; Biochemistry Education and Bio-entrepreneurship; Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; Cancer Biology and Research; Bioinformatics; as well as Proteomics and Genomics, among others.
The NSBMB is the umbrella body for all Biochemists and Molecular Biologists and promotes education, research and development in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Nigeria.
The annual conference is the foremost academic forum for leading scientists and researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the allied sciences from the academia, industry, medicine, food, agriculture, and other sectors in Nigeria, Africa and beyond to present and share their current research outputs.
