Dr Akan Williams Receives Admission as Professional Fellow
Dr Akan Williams, an Associate Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry at Covenant University (CU) has been awarded a Professional Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN). The award was presented by the National President of the Chemistry Society of Nigeria, Professor Gloria Obuzor, in an awards ceremony held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Dr Williams, the immediate past Director of Academic Planning at CU, was one of 26 chemists across Nigeria, to be honoured for their contributions during the 38th International Conference of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, held from September 7- 11, 2015.
The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo, congratulated the new Fellow on the award and encouraged him to continue striving for excellence in his field.
Dr Williams obtained his BSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Calabar in 1991; his MSc in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Port Harcourt in 2001. He obtained his PhD in Environmental Chemistry in 2011 at Covenant University. Dr Williams’ current research focus is on the monitoring of persistent organic pollutants in the environment.
Dr Williams is the Chairman of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Ogun Chapter where he has played a key role in its reactivation in 2005. He also served as the Charter Secretary from 2005-2012 and the Vice-Chairman from 2012-2014. In addition, he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Chemists.
Dr Williams is appreciative and humbled by the recognition and promised to continue to use his academic prowess and research capacity for the development of Nigeria.
