Dr. Sheriff F. Folarin Appointed as Director of International Office and Linkages
A new Director of the International Office and Linkages (IOL) has been appointed by the Management of Covenant University
He is Dr. Sheriff F. Folarin, a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Political Science and International Relations. He takes over with immediate effect from Dr. Nnamdi Ekeanyanwu who had served in that capacity for 3 years.
Until his appointment, Dr. Folarin, 39, was the Deputy Director of the African Leadership Development Centre (ALDC), a position he has held from 2011. He is however not new to the IOL. He played pioneering roles in the IOL from 2007 when he was appointed as first Coordinator of the International Office (also known then as International Students Services), where he built the enduring structures of internationalization for the University and has remained a core resource person for the same cause since then.
The new Director is a hardworking and seasoned international scholar. With two Fellowships to his credit in the course of his academic sojourn, he is a 2007 Fellow of the Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI), and a 2011 Classroom Beyond Borders Scholar, both of which have made him Visiting Fellow to the Walker Institute (University of South Carolina) and Ithaca College (New York) at various times. In 2012, he chaired the Local Organizing Committee that hosted the successful 11th Conference of the Fulbright Alumni Association of Nigeria (FAAN) at Covenant University, the very first time such would be hosted in a private university in Nigeria.
As a teacher, he has won a number of awards, including numerous student awards, the prestigious Covenant University Outstanding Academic Performance award in 2005 and Oba Lipede Prize in History at the University of Ibadan in 1994. He has led Covenant University to the Nigeria Model United Nations Society Conference three times, two of which were won by the institution.
A public-spirited intellectual, Dr. Folarin is a regular columnist and a Visiting Editorial Board member of a leading national newspaper. He is happily married with children.
