ESVARBON Accreditation Team Visits Covenant University
A five-man team from the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) has concluded a two-day accreditation exercise to the Department of Estate Management of Covenant University.
The head of the delegation, Dr. Fidelis Emoh said that the mission of the team was a fact-finding and not faultfinding one. He added that the essence was to see the facilities and resources that are available to build, mold and shape the next generation of Estate Managers and Surveyors.
Dr Emoh, who is currently the Head of Department, Estate Management, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, gave thumbs up to the admission policy of Covenant University. According to him, the University Management has raised the bar in determining who qualifies to pursue a programme in Estate Management.
He noted that having examined the academic resources of the Department and the qualification of external examiners, the team was satisfied with what was on ground in the department. Furthermore, he advised that the quality of resources available at the Department’s library, both physical and online, be maintained.
Dr. Emoh applauded the effort of the Department for blazing the trail in having Real Estate Software that is readily available to students. This he said would enhance professionalism and improvement in the quality of professionals graduating from the University. The team, in their scorecard extolled the Management of the University for having a very robust staff development programme that would see to the constant improvement of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Dean, College of Science and Technology (CST), Professor Samuel S. Adefila and the Head, Department of Estate Management, Dr. Ayotunde Oni both clarified the uniqueness of the operations of the Department of Estate Management of Covenant University and the sharing of resources with other related departments in the College.
According to them, the students have the privilege of interacting with great minds in the industry taking into account that they undertake field trips and site visitations from time to time, in a bid to enhance their awareness and be field rated.
Responding on behalf of the Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo acknowledged the partnership role of ESVARBON and the University in ensuring quality in the industry. He instructed the Director, Centre for Learning Resources, Dr. Chris Nkiko to ensure more resources are made available as touching materials in Estate Management, with a focus on those with local content.
Professor Ayo lauded the ESVARBON team for their observations and promised that the Management would focus more on issues raised in guaranteeing that quality education is what Covenant University stands for at all time.
Other principal officers of the University present at the occasion include the Registrar, Dr. Ubong Ntia, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Dr. Taiwo Abioye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor AAA. Atayero, Acting Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Akan Williams, Deputy Dean, School of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Samuel Oloyede and other members of staff.
