Engineering Students Urged to Create Digital Solutions
Students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Covenant University have been urged to create digital solutions that meet real human needs. The advise was given by the Managing Director, Serve Consulting, Engineer Deolu Adejuyibe, at a recent Town and Gown interaction organized by the Department.
The Guest Speaker, in his presentation, titled, “The Role of Engineering in a Digital World", gave an overview of how internet took over the earth, stressing that the world we live in today is driven by something much more than what the manufacturing age gave us.
In his words, “Today, there's a lot of collaboration in real time. A lot of information is available and can be referenced. We are getting to a period where things will be connected to each other, whether we like it or not. Any sufficiently advanced technology is considered magic. Welcome to the world of digital transformation”.
Engr. Adejuyibe, urged the students that as future engineers, they should use their formal education in line with the digital age to create solutions that would benefit the needs of the world. According to him, “Everything we're learning in school can be used to push the boundaries. It's the boundaries that engineers push that move the world forward”
“As engineers when creating things, take into consideration the percentage of mobile phone users because of the high usage of the internet,” he added
Earlier, the Head, Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Oluseyi Ajayi, remarked, “That the importance of the Departmental Seminar was to foster working relationship between the academia and the industries. He said it also allow students to interact with seasoned practitioners in the field, thereby giving them the necessary inputs that build their capacity to think.”
