Experts to Discuss E-government at Covenant University’s Conference
As Nigeria marks the first anniversary of the current administration, experts on the issues of governance and Information Communication Technology (ICT) will converge at the 3rd Covenant University Conference on E-government in Nigeria (CUCEN) between June 8 and 10 to discuss “Information and Communication Technology for Governance in Nigeria: Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities”.
The Conference which debuted in 2014 is to provide a platform for academics, policy makers, industry practitioners and civil society actors to address the general theme of the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in administrative and organisation practice in Nigeria.
The Conference, according to the facilitator, Professor Patience Akpan-Obong of the Arizona State University, USA, would also afford the policy makers and industry practitioners to gain deeper understanding of the factors facilitating or hindering greater integration of ICT in governance.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu will be the Special Guest of Honour while the Chairman, SmartCity Resort Plc, Sir Demola Aladekomo and the Vice Provost, International Affairs and Professor of Political Science at the University of California, USA, will deliver the Keynote Papers.
The major highlight of this year’s conference, according to Professor Akpan-Obong, who is currently a Fulbright Scholar at the Department of Computer and Information Science of Covenant University, are the public presentation/launching of the book, “Issues and Concept of E-governance in Nigeria-A Reader,” the commissioning of the Covenant University Centre for E-governance and E-business Research (CUCEER) as well as two workshop sessions on “E-government 101.”
“The workshop will provide hands-on training on utilization of ICTs to achieve efficiency and increase productivity in the work place. They are designed to meet the administrative needs of civil servants, legislative staff, local government workers, teachers and business owners,” she explained.
