Faculty Advise on How to Publish in High Impact Journals
“To succeed in research, you must make it your only occupation.” This was a piece of advice from Professor Kehinde Onwuche Okonjo to the young Faculty at the 5th edition of the Mentorship Chat Series organized by the School of Postgraduate Studies, Covenant University on Tuesday.
The professor of Biophysical Chemistry, in the Department of Chemistry of the University also advised them to make sacrifices in the pursuit of their research work, adding that they should not distort facts.
Speaking on the topic, “Publishing in the High Impact Journals,” he enjoined them to develop strong interest in the area of their research and make sure their supervisors are competent in the same area to avoid draw backs.
While enumerating attitude they must posses when aiming at publishing in high impact journal, Professor Okonjo charged them to be humble and ready to learn. He also enjoined them to be prepared for rejection which according to him will help them improve the work.
The Registrar, Dr. Daniel Rotimi also enjoined the faculty to respect whoever is working with them particularly the Technologists. He said that the University is research based and they must be ready to abide by it.
In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan encouraged them to be self motivated adding that the research must consume them. She informed the audience that the University would soon embarked on purchasing research equipment relevant to research each research clusters which are different from teaching equipment.
