The Postgraduate students of Covenant University have been admonished to be skillful, enthusiastic, confident, hardworking and to keep dreaming big.

The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Adeleke Fakoya at the 8th Hooding Event organized as part of the activities to commemorate the Convocation Ceremony at the Lecture Theatre on Thursday July 25, 2013, gave this advice. He encouraged the students that just completed their Masters and Doctorate programmes to make good use of their research work to solve societal problems. “Let the world see the outcome of your research work”, he said.

There were prizes for the best student in each of the departments, the overall best and the first set of Eagles to bag Ph.D degrees in Covenant University.

The first set of Eagles who bagged Ph.D degrees included Dr. Idowu Adenike (Sociology), Dr. Obanua Sonia Adenzele (Mass communication) and Dr. Okorie Nelson Chukwuemeka (Mass Communication). About 116 students bagged Masters Degrees in various fields, while 30 students bagged Ph.D Degrees. It was indeed a great experience as the graduands and well wishers celebrated their success.

Also speaking at the hooding event for the undergraduate students on Friday July 26, 2013, Mr Oluwafemi Babalola, CEO, Emm Smith Investment Limited, Lagos, urged the graduands to be ready to learn, to step out of their comfort zones whenever the need arises and also to stand firm in God. He confirmed that though youth unemployment is at 50%, Covenant University graduates are free from the menace of unemployment.

He stated further that there are jobs, but they are for the most diligent and hardworking. Therefore, he advised the graduands to embrace integrity and stay focus. “Don’t be complacent, never accept mediocrity”, he said.

He congratulated the students for graduating from one of the best Universities in the country where emphasis is placed on education and morals, unlike other universities.
