Officials from Jumia Online Stores paid a courtesy visit to Covenant University on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in Canaan Land, Ota.

While stating their purpose of visit, the leader of the team who is also the Human Resource Director, Mr. Dele Awolala, explained, “Jumia would like to partner with Covenant University in the area of employment, internships, community service, trainings and research.” He further stated that Jumia has a large number of Covenant University graduates currently in their employment.

In his welcome remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo stated, “We would be happy to partner with you and look forward to some of the collaboration platforms you listed. On internships particularly, I am glad to let you know that Covenant University is pioneering a mandatory internship programme for all students. This is the first time it would be happening in Nigeria.”

While making her remarks at the meeting, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye stated, “Every year, we have major events like ‘convocation,’ it would be nice if you would consider partnering with us in the area of branding of gift items, placement of adverts in the order of proceedings or general sponsorship according to your area of interest.”

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo said, “Thank you for the number of CU graduates in your employment and for the internship opportunities. At this point, it would be nice to come up with a Memorandum of Understanding to capture these points.”

The Vice Chancellor further said, “We are planning a mini-luncheon, which we have tagged, ‘Covenant University Industry Partnership Luncheon.’ We are not thinking of going cap-in-hand begging for funding. Our plan is to bring the captains of the various industries in various sectors of the economy together to showcase our various research endowments and products in different areas. This is very important at the verge of turning patents to products.”

Also present at the meeting were the Manager, Strategic Business Unit, Dr. Abiola Babajide; the Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Adewale Osibanjo and a member of the Directorate of Media and Corporate Affairs.
