NIESV Seeks CU Support on Membership Engagement
The Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ogun State branch, has appealed to the Management of Covenant University to assist in getting members of faculty and students of the institution to participate actively in NIESV’s activities and programmes.
Speaking during a meeting with the CU Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, the State Chairman of NIESV, ESV. Ibironke Alaba, who came with a large entourage comprised of Executive and Committee members, said the group was always delighted to be in the Covenant University environment, which she described as “so tantalising”.
NIESV’s mission, she revealed, was to pay a courtesy visit, reiterate its support for the university’s vision of being among the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022 and seek partnership with CU on getting faculty and students to affiliate with the Ogun branch and national body of NIESV.
“Your students, who eventually would be our members, are doing us proud,” said ESV. Alaba. “But we always have constraints about who are our members. When we have meetings we don’t see many of them, including the faculty. But we want them to know that the growth of members is to affiliate. We want them to be fully integrated into our programme.”
The Head, Department of Estate Management, Dr. Chukwuma Iroha, who was at the meeting, told the gathering that the Ogun State NIESV branch has always been a source of support to the department in terms of accreditation. He enjoined the CU management to partner with the professional body in realising its objectives.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, thanked ESV. Alaba for her kind words on the CU environment and reiterated that the university is five years into its Vision 1 of 10 in 10, which is a prophetic verdict.
Covenant University, he said, encourages faculty, staff and students to identify with professional bodies as the institution takes professional practice very important. “Moving up the professional ladder is very important. I make bold to say there is no university in Nigeria where the level of commitment is as high like that of our faculty, and we’ll like that to be transferred to the professional body,” said the Vice-Chancellor.
Also, he promised that the university will encourage professional engagement among students.
Also present at the event were the Registrar, Pastor Olamide Olusegun; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladehinbo; and some faculty members of the Department of Estate Management.
