Physics Students Advised to Love Course
Students of Physics at Covenant University have been advised to be happy with the programme in order to get the best out of it.
The Guest Speaker, at the Town and Gown seminar organised by the Department of Physics on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the University campus, Mr. Funsho Ogunyale, gave the advice while delivering his paper titled, ‘Physics and Sustainable Information Technology’.
Mr. Ogunyale stated that as graduate of Physics, their place in Information Technology (IT) is secure if they know what they are doing. “Since Information Technology applied major physics discoveries with demonstrated benefits to the society, it is evident that the Information Technology industries are employing the best physicists to do both basic and applied research always creating a career prospect for physics graduate in Information Technology,” he said.
He touched on different era of Information Technologies influenced by Physics which include electromagnetism, the electron, quantum mechanics and quantum optics. “It is obvious that physics plays an important role in the field of Information Technology. Nearly every device has some physics principles.
“As we develop our infrastructure including fixed lines and optic fibre networks, a knowledge and understanding of the physics that underpin these technologies are essential,” he explained.
The Head of Physics Department, Dr. Mojisola Usikalu, stated in her remarks that the Town and Gown was aimed at interaction between the academia and the industry in order to enhance the employability of the students. She expressed belief that the students and other participants would benefit maximally from the presentation.
The event was attended by the former HODs, Professor Marvel Akinyemi, Dr. Victor Omotosho, other senior faculty, staff and students of the Department.
