Vice-Chancellor urges Staff Commitment to Vision 10:22
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo, on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, continued the annual strategic visits to Directorates, Centres and Units of the University.
Professor Ayo and some members of the central management team visited the Directorate of Covenant University Construction Agency (CUCA) and Physical Planning and Development (PDD), Students Affairs Department and Centre for Systems and Information Services (CSIS).
Each of the leaders used the occasion to present their score cards as it relates to their areas of strength, gaps, activities in line with the goal for 2015/2016 Academic Session, achievements recorded so far, challenges, strategies for internally generated revenue, and future pathways.
At the Physical Planning and Development, and Covenant University Construction Agency, the Director, Pastor Azubuike Nwoke, said that, the directorate is the only one in any Nigerian universities in Nigeria where all physical structures are in- built and has been able to create stimulating environment for learning for the University community.
“The Directorate of both Covenant University Construction Agency (CUCA) and Physical Planning and Development (PPD) have played vital roles in creating an environment for the University community and we are proud to be the only university where every building on campus is designed, constructed and furnished within the directorate,” he said.
The Director assured the Vice-Chancellor and his team that they would continue to improve on their work as he pledged their continuous and unalloyed support for the management.
The Vice-Chancellor in his response noted that there is still lot more to do in order to achieve the Vision 10:2022. He urged them to have all hands on deck to see that every task is executed in order to have a stimulating learning environment.
At the Students’ Affairs Department, the Dean, Dr. Zacchaeus Omogbadegun, in his presentation to the management team enumerated the initiative his team has put in place to make Covenant University students have a better learning condition and making them adhere to the rules and regulations of the institution. He also mentioned the different successes the students have achieved so far in the session ranging from different scholarships, awards among others.
Due to their constant interaction with the students of the University, the Vice-Chancellor urged the staff to be more innovative, and engage wisdom that is void of assault in their relationship with students. He also enjoined the unit to be more sacrificial in their delivery of assignments. “Please engage them in a way that will bring out the best in them, as they are the future generation leaders”.
The Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services (CSIS), Mr. Yinka Adeboye, in his presentation reported that the centre works with every unit of the University, providing support, administrative and professional services to ensure proper deployment of ICT solution and services in teaching, learning, administration, student life, and research.
He explained further that, “CSIS has been able to lead, manage and develop ICT in the university, providing excellent customer centred services that are responsive to the changing needs of the user with an effective staff development programme, which ensures that ICT staff continues to acquire the necessary skills to provide high-quality services and support”.
The Vice-Chancellor in his response appreciated the Director and the staff for their good work. He noted that with the large bandwidth and uninterrupted internet services, CSIS has placed the University at vantage position ahead of other universities. He urged the team to place the University is vision above self interest.
Staff at various Directorates and Units visited also brought on board issues affecting their welfare and capacity building. They also enumerated various challenges facing them, to which the Vice-Chancellor and other members of management adequately responded.
On the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye; Registrar, Pastor Olamide Olusegun; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladehinbo, Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr. Akan Williams, staff of the Vice-Chancellor’s and Registrar’s office as well as staff of the Media and Corporate Affairs.
