“We will Transform the Learning Environment” - VC
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo, has renewed the commitment of the University to transform learning on Campus.
Professor Ayo stated this during a presentation by a team from Equipment Hall Limited (in partnership with Intel) in his office on Thursday, November 13, 2014.
The Team made a presentation titled, Empowering Digital Literacy with Prestigio Tablets and Multiboards. It was the introduction of interactive multiboard and tablets for learning purposes by the company which specializes in deployment of IT hardware, solutions and services.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that, “Parents send their wards here to learn, and it is our responsibility that they learn”. Quoting a United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO’s) recent report, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Nigeria is among the 37 countries in the world where learning is not taking place. The teacher is just talking in the classroom but the students are not learning. We are interested in transforming learning environment in Covenant University”, he explained.
Professor Ayo also expressed assurance that the product would serve in the Open and Distance Learning Programmes the University is embarking on soon.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the organization, Mr. Gbolahan Olayomi, explained, “The new direction of investment being proposed is one that extends the use of technology beyond computer labs to the classroom.
“With the increasing impact the digital world is having on learning, this approach has been proven to be more impactful on students, that is, making learning more mobile and personalized”.
Giving further explanations on the presentation made by the organization’s Business Development Manager, Mr. Ayorinde Olomiye, the CEO listed some of the benefits of Prestigio/Intel Education Solution to include, strategic partnership and support from IT industry leaders; flexibility in providing the solution; automatic firmware update and two years international warranty, as well as advance technology for an affordable price, amongst others.
“With this, the elasticity of knowledge has no limit. Covenant University being an ICT driven university, is going to change learning environment”, he said.
Also at the presentation were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye; Director, Centre for Systems and Information Services, Pastor Abolade Afolabi; Director, Covenant University Centre for Life-Long Learning, Dr. Nicholas Omoregbe; Commercial Director, Equipment Hall, Mrs. Funmilayo Aiyepeku and members of the Directorate of Media and Corporate Affairs.
