“You Are A Gap Filler”. Dr. Oludayo To New Alumni Members
The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Covenant University Alumni Association, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo has charged the newly inducted Alumni of Covenant University to make themselves a beacon of hope and transformation in this generation.
Dr. Oludayo said this at the Covenant University Alumni investiture programme organized as part of the 10th Convocation Ceremony.
Using Isaiah 58:12 to charge the newly inducted eagles, the Chairman noted that there are many irregularities in the world today, and many who have gone ahead with the intentions to make a change have had desires but everything still remains at the foundation level. He, however, urged them to take up the responsibility to raise the foundations of many generations and fill the gap. “Many of us have become continuously relevant because we know how to spot gaps and release ourselves to God in filling it”, he added.
In his charge, he pin-pointed time, talent, techniques, tools and most importantly, truth (Character) as the five vital factors required of anyone who desires to be an agent of change. “In fulfilling this mandate of the gap-filler, the repairer of the bridge and the restorer of the path, consider how you use and invest time. Time is a universal currency and everyone has the same amount and quality of time available to them. The best of your time is engaged when you have goals”, he said.
He, however, warned that there is no great door without adversaries neither are there opportunities without oppositions. Though great things lie ahead of each of them, there is need to brace up for the tough world. He also added that before they prepare to leave for their National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), every one of them had a chance to give their life the shape they want it.
Speaking on the relevance of the Association and the support they have had from the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo, Dr Oludayo mentioned that the Chancellor has always been a great supporter and financier of Alumni projects, one of which is the Hope Foundation. “He believes in what we do; he’s not ashamed of us. He takes pride and pleasure in the success and advancement of the Eagles”.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice-President of Career Development Group, Mr. Taiwo Olukoya told the inductees, “Covenant University Alumni Association is poised to add value to you and our intention is to advance the values Covenant University promotes by building different networks of change everywhere we are. Wherever we are, our intention is to build a network of change”
He encouraged them to see the association as one that will be beneficial to them after school and also make the most of different groups and activities they can join and partake in. “I have been an active member for some years now and I don’t have any regret. I assure you that you will not have any regret also”, Mr. Olukoya further stated, “On this great day, I congratulate you for joining this great network- a network you should be proud of. In the words of our Chancellor, “It is foolishness if you don’t embrace what is gainful. I encourage you to take it with your whole heart and you will never regret that decision”.
In his goodwill message, the President, Landmark University Alumni Association, Mr. Owolabi Akinyomade congratulated the graduands who were being inducted and also urged them to see life after school as the beginning of another path. He told them to see the process they have been through while learning as been a gathering phase, when they gather the things needed to make impact in the future. “So, like you have persons that have gone ahead making impact out there and you all look up to them today, I trust God that you will do the same and take it to a higher level,” he said.
Director, Hope Foundation, Mr. Femi Taiwo also ran through what Hope Foundation is all about- its values and objectives.
Highlight of the programme include taking of the oath of Investiture which was administered by the Vice President, Covenant University Alumni Association, Mr. Stephen Oluwatobi after which the new inductees were received by Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo.
Also present at the Investiture programme were: Dean, Student Affairs, Mr. Azubuike Ezenwoke, Mr. Shorundowam (from PPD), Mr. Femi Taiwo from Hope Foundation, and some other members of the Alumni (Eagles).
