Summary of Profile
Dr. G. I. Olasehinde is an Associate Professor and the Acting Head of Head of the Department of Biological Sciences. Her area of research interest is Medical Microbiology and Parasitology (Malariology) and Biotechnology. She is a Principal Investigator on CUCRID grant for 'Development of Saliva-based 'Point of Care' diagnostic tool for Malaria' and Co-Ivestigator in the 2014/2015 TWAS grant for Biological Sciences on ‘ Preclinical evaluation of novel computational-aided designed compounds as antimalarial drug candidates’. She won the ‘Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT)/Japan International Cooperation Agency’ (JICA) and ATCT sponsorship to attend the South-South Symposium and ‘Train the Trainer’ Course on ‘Applications of Genomics in Public health for Infectious Diseases of Poverty: Diagnostics and Vector Control’ January 23rd- 30th, 2014. She was also a recipient of ‘Best thesis award’ in the College of Science and Technology, 2010 July, awarded in 2013. She has won the prestigious Third World Organisation for women in Science (TWOWS) Postgraduate fellowship award to carry out research at the National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), Delhi, India between January and June, 2009. In November 2009, she was awarded the WHO/TDR travel grant to present a paper at the Fifth Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM)/Pan-African Malaria Conference at KICC, Nairobi, Kenya. She also won a grant to attend and present a paper at the Third World Organisation for women in Science (TWOWS) 4th General assembly and 43rd International conference at the Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, India. She is a member of different professional bodies including America Society of Microbiology (ASM), Third World Organisation for women in Science (TWOWS) Italy, Nigeria Biotechnology Society (NBS), Nigeria, International Society for Computational Biology (ISBC), USA, Nigeria Society for Microbiology (NSM), Nigeria. Dr. Olasehinde is an active member of the Covenant University Public Health and Wellbeing Research Group (CUPHWERG) and Bioinformatics as well as Biotechnology research clusters.
