Professor Adebayo Bags ‘Sir Ahmadu Bello Leadership’ Award

In recognition of his leadership contribution which has helped in repositioning education in Nigeria and Africa, the leadership of Arewa Youth Consultative Council (AYCC) has bestowed the Sir Ahmadu Bello Leadership Award of Excellence on the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo.

The National President of the Council, Zaid Ayuba, said the council has been impressed with Covenant University for flying Nigeria’s flag in the global education space through her robust training model.
According to him, Covenant University, as an educational institution, is making Nigerians proud, noting that the accomplishments of the University are a source of hope to the nation and generations unborn, which people from within and outside the continent will be seeking after the Covenant model of learning.
Ayuba, who came in the company of coordinators of the North-Central, North-East, and North-West of the Council, commended the quality of graduates emanating from the university and how it has in a short time turned the narratives around as it relates to visions and capabilities of private university education.
He said the AYCC has been following the trajectory of the performance of Covenant University, her leadership, and her general outlook; as such, there was no one better qualified to be conferred the Icon of Educational Development Award than the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, appreciated the leadership of AYCC for the award and the honour bestowed on Covenant University. According to him, the award is not about any individual but the impactful strides and leaps the University has made over the years.
Professor Adebayo said Covenant was born out of the Chancellor’s desire to develop an educational platform for the training of men and women who will champion the rebirth of Nigeria’s political and business environment.
“We are highly afro-centric in our teaching with the mindset of making our pedagogy accessible to as many as are qualified to raise leaders across frontiers that will be at the forefront of driving change at all levels in our nation and continent,” he averred.
Professor Adebayo commended the leadership of AYCC for driving societal and national integration, which are pivotal in addressing basic challenges bedevilling national cohesion. “If we all work together, we can fix Nigeria and even Africa, because there is a need to restore integrity in our national discourse, just as it is our watchword here at Covenant University,” he posited.
He pledged Covenant University’s support for every developmental initiative spearheaded by Arewa Youth Consultative Council, and assured the leadership of the council of the University’s management readiness to advance the evolving relationship between both institutions.
Present during the award presentation were the Director, Financial Services, Pastor Oluwole Bolujoko, and the Principal Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Emmanuel Igban.
