The conference aims to share and disseminate research evidences on current and future population impact on sustainable economic development especially as it relates to various ongoing developmental agendas. Lessons will be drawn from remarkable experience of East-Asian countries on rapid demographic change and economic growth. The Department is therefore inviting papers and posters that address empirical, theoretical and policy driven papers for presentation at the conference. Participation is open to all academics, researchers, professionals, policy makers and students from around the globe. Please see the call papers and participation for full detail.

Covenant University Holds 36th Public Lecture, Oct 23 2013
The lecture titled “Nigeria, Oil and the Yamani Syndrome” will be delivered by an astute scholar and Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Professor Kayode Akinyemi Soremekun.
Professor Soremekun is the immediate past Dean, College of Development Studies and former Head of Department of Political Science and International Relations, Covenant University. He also chairs the University Parley Committee.
Before joining the University in August 2010, Professor Kayode Soremekun’s career has alternated between the inter-related worlds of academic and journalism. He has worked on full-time and part-time basis on the editorial boards of various newspapers. These include the now rested Daily Times, the Guardian, the Champion, the Nigerian Compass and the defunct AM News.
In academia, Professor Soremekun started out as an Assistant Lecturer in 1982 at the then University of Ife. He rose steadily through the ranks and eventually in 1997, he was appointed a Professor of International Relations at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
In the course of this progression, he held a number of administrative positions. These include: Head of Department, Vice Dean, and Dean, Faculty of Administration.
Professor Soremekun in 2006, was again assessed, interviewed and subsequently appointed a Professor of Political Science at the University of Lagos. Two years later, he was appointed Head, Department of Political Science, at UNILAG.
He won a number of prestigious and competitive international fellowships which include Rockefeller Residency Fellowship in Bellagio, Italy, The Senior Fulbright Research Fellowship and Ford Foundation Travelling Fellowship among others.
The lecture will be chaired by the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents of the University, Dr. David Oyedepo.
