Covenant Students Showcase Skills in Advert Pitch Contest
Students of the Department of Mass Communication, Covenant University, wowed the audience with their creative talents at the recent Annual Departmental Advertising Agency Pitch Contest held in the institution.
Divided into six different groups, the students made advertisement pitches to their clients, who doubled as the judges. The panel of judges comprised of Managing Director, CFAO Assene Laborex, Mr Regis Tromeur (France); General Manager, Suzuki Motors, Madam Aissatou Diouf (Senegal); MD/Chief Creative Officer, Noah's Ark Advertising Agency, Mr Lanre Adisa; Deputy Director, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Mrs Ijedi Iyoha; and Vice-President, International Advertising Association (IAA), Mr Femi Adelusi.
These experts from the advertising industry challenged the students on the depth of their knowledge in advertising.
Students in each competing group worked hard to make presentations geared towards improving their human relations skills. They combined innovative ideas, and criticisms by the judges motivated them to bring out the best ideas. The participants were urged on with loads of cheers and support from their group members.
Three from the six participating groups emerged winners of the competition and were awarded trophies and medals.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr Oscar Odiboh, representing the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Kehinde Oyesomi, congratulated all the participating students. He advised them to put in their best efforts to win the competition, which, he said, would ultimately signify the level of marks they get in their examination.
He welcomed and appreciated the judges from the industry context and commended their commitment to the event's success, which made them defy all odds to make themselves available for the event. He also appreciated the faculty and staff of the Department for the success of the event.
Dr Odiboh, in his closing remarks, made some insightful observations on each group's performance. He encouraged them to focus on one idea that would drive the clientele, go beyond the conventional channels, and work on their slideshow presentation skills.
Also at the event were other members of faculty and staff of the Department.
