Covenant World Leader in the field of Municipal Solid Waste; Solid Wastes; Waste Management
Latest computations by Elsevier Scival, the quick and easy access to the research performance of 8500 research institutions and 220 countries worldwide, showed that Covenant University led other world institutions in the field of Municipal Solid Waste; Solid Wastes; Waste Management.
Not less than six Nigerian institutions, including some first generation universities, were on the list of the top 10 institutions worldwide on this topic.
The computations, spanning the period between 2012 and 2017, saw Covenant occupying the No. 1 spot with 16 publications and 29 citations, while Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa, emerging 2with 8 publications and 24 citations. University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos were 3 and 4 respectively in the list, which also featured University of Nigeria, Nsukka (6), Delta State University (8), and University of Port Harcourt (10).
It was no coincidence that the leading author in this field at Covenant University, Professor David Omole, also emerged No. 1 among the top 100 authors in the world with 13 publications, 29 citations, and 5 h-index. A faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering, Professor Omole’s research interests include Water quality, re-aeration coefficient modeling and Assimilative Capacity Study (ACS) of Surface water bodies; Water and waste-water treatment and technology, amongst others.
Next was Engr. PraiseGod Emenike, also of the Civil Engineering department. His 4 publications, 5 citations, and 2 h-index earned him the 4th position. Some of his research interests are Solid Waste Management, Hospital waste Management, Water Quality, and Water Treatment.
Amongst other Covenant authors in the top 100 list were Engr. Theophilus Tenebe (7), Dr. Akinwumi Isaac (14), Dr. Anthony Ede (18), and Dr. David Olukanni (23).
