Professor Obayan advocates Visionary Leadership for Nigeria
“If there is anything our Nation needs, it is visionary leadership”. This was the crux of the presentation of the Dean, College of Leadership Development Studies (CLDS), Professor Aize Obayan, at the opening session of the on-going Certificate in Leadership Development Studies of the Covenant University Lifelong Learning Programme 2015.
Professor Obayan, while introducing the programme to the participants, observed that there are challenges everywhere but people are looking out for solution providers. According to her, Leadership is service and giving direction to others. She added that it is the ability to influence a group of people to solve challenges.
Professor Obayan informed the participants that the Certificate in Leadership Development Studies was birthed by the Chancellor of the University, Dr. David Oyedepo in order for the students to discover the purpose God had ordained for them.
Quoting extensively from Dr. Oyedepo’s thoughts on Leadership, Professor Obayan noted that the real worth of a man is in the value he adds, the contribution he makes, the feats he accomplishes and the impact he generates.
“Great leaders are not those with chains of degrees but those who change the world. Titles are essentially adjectives of convenience; they are more of entertainment gestures”, she noted.
She also described leadership as a concept of “glocalization”, which according to her, means thinking global but acting local. The objective of the programme, among others, is to prepare individuals to identify personal and organizational capacities necessary for strategic improvement. The two-week programme ends on Friday, July 17, 2015.
