Emerging coronaviruses constitute a continuous public health threat of global proportion due to their diverse nature, fast spread, and the close interactions between humans and wild, domestic and companion animals. The outbreak of a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection, COVID-19 pandemic, which began in Wuhan China in December 2019 has spread to over 200 countries around the world. By the end of April 2020, over 3,000,000 cases and 210,000 deaths were recorded globally. COVID-19 cases and the associated deaths are rising steadily in Nigeria and other African countries. Covenant University Public Health and Wellbeing Research Cluster presents, as a part of its awareness and enlightenment campaign, a brief account of COVID-19 pandemic between January 21, 2020 and April 20, 2020. The pandemic has made the world become more aware of the best practices during a pandemic, ranging from hand-washing, social distancing and travel restrictions to lockdown! The quest for survival of human race from the pandemic has become the primary concern of the entire world. Researchers and companies should rise up to stop COVID-19 pandemic with appropriate tests, treatments, and vaccines. Investigations and consequent clinical trials on potential new or existing broad-spectrum antivirals, including bioactive compounds from herbal formulas, should be done in a timely manner. The outcome of this pandemic may be difficult to predict now, but the human race will soon get over it. Synergy between experts, governments, world leaders and the citizens is critical in winning the battle against COVID-19 pandemic.
