The Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has advised the students of the institution to prioritize their relationship with God as they embark on their holidays.
He gave this advice while giving his charge at the Departure Assembly of the University, held on March 2, 2024, at the school Chapel; marking the end of the Alpha Semester.
The Chancellor’s message titled, ‘Taking Personal Responsibility Towards Securing Anyone’s Glorious Destiny in Life,’ and drawn from 1 John 5:18, emphasized the importance of seeking refuge in God's protection, “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”
He corroborated it with Psalm 91:1-7, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence...”
He stressed the need for personal and spiritual accountability in navigating the challenges of life. The Chancellor advised students to avoid negative influences by maintaining positive associations, citing 1 Corinthians 15:33. He also warned against idolatry, quoting 1 John 5:21, and urged prompt repentance and self-correction when faced with sin.
Furthermore, Dr. Oyedepo encouraged students to nurture their faith and trust in God, referencing 2 Timothy 4:6-8. He emphasized the need to prioritize God's kingdom, as it paves the way for divine blessings and opportunities. He stated that a serious commitment to God is the pathway to success and fulfillment in life.
In addressing academic challenges, Dr. Oyedepo advised students who faced difficulties in the last examination, to seek divine intervention. He encouraged them to approach their studies and life endeavors with seriousness and dedication, citing his own experiences of using a lantern to teach physics and planting a church in a remote and unreached village.
In conclusion, the Chancellor blessed and prayed for all students, staff, and faculty, urging them to embrace a lifestyle of dedication and faithfulness to God.
