Members of the newly inaugurated Covenant University Health Research Ethics Committee (CHREC) have been implored to ensure inclusivity as they promote and improve research outcomes in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, handed down the message on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, as he inaugurated the reconstituted CHREC, which is to serve for the next two years.
While congratulating the outgone leadership and members for their efforts at earning CHREC a global reputation, Professor Adebayo promised that Covenant, as a world-class research-focused University, would continue to promote quality research. He emphasized that the University Management would be supporting the committee in its endeavours.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, expressed reservations about what he considered the seemingly limited involvement of Postgraduate students of the University in the activities of the CHREC. He said that with the postgraduate students doing high-quality research in the University, the committee should sensitize that demography and get them to be part of what the CHREC was doing.
Professor Adebayo, on behalf of the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents of Covenant University, Dr David O. Oyedepo, subsequently inaugurated the new CHREC, praying that the Hand of God would be on the committee.
The Registrar, Dr Oluwasegun Omidiora, had earlier stated the mandate of the CHREC and reeled out names of members of the new committee, with Professor Grace Olasehinde as Chairman and Dr Solomon Rotimi as Secretary.
Professor Olasehinde, in her acceptance speech on behalf of all members of the committee, appreciated God for the opportunity, adding that it was a rare privilege to serve. She stated that with God behind the committee, it would not let the University down.
Also at the event were Professor Shalom Chinedu and Dr Tayo George, the immediate past Chairman and Secretary of the CHREC, respectively; Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Omotayo Osibanjo, and a host of others.
