Covenant University Partners Spell Africa International on ‘Street to School’ Project

Spell Africa International (SAI), organiser of the annual Spelling Leaders Competition, featuring secondary and primary school pupils in Lagos and Ogun states, has expressed its profound gratitude to Covenant University for her support to the organisation of the event.

Covenant had since 2019, apparently in fulfilment of her mission to create knowledge and restore the dignity of the black man, been facilitating the hosting of the Spelling Leaders Competition and donation of books of different standards to the organisers for presentation to participating pupils.

The President, SAI, Miss Gift Akwejevu, said the organisation was glad to have Covenant’s support. She prayed that God would continue to reward the institution on her labour of love that had contributed a great deal to the administration of the ‘Street to School’ vision.

At the recently held 9th edition of the Spelling Leaders competition, 10-year-old Williams Chukwujiobi of Kismet Pillars School, Lagos, emerged champion, while Mmasinachi Okechukwu, 8, of Golden Care Montessori School, Lagos, and Okonkwo Pretty, 8, of Golden Care Montessori School, Lagos, were 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.

The secondary school category had Dennis Joy, 14, of Alpha and Omega College, Ogun State, as champion. The first runner-up was Lawal Morenikeji, 14, of Excellent Brain Builders Int’l School, Ogun State, while Jokodola Olapeju, 14, of Solverson group of Schools, Lagos, emerged 2nd runner-up.

Spell Africa International is a Non-Governmental Organisation that gives scholarship to children who are less privileged, dream of going to school, but cannot, due to very scarce resources at the disposal of their parents, and who due to their demographics and other cultural reasons, are deprived the privilege of access to a good education.

“Spell Africa International also organises Spelling Leaders Competitions to help inspire and motivate the interest of Children in Education. We have successfully planned and organised nine editions of our Spelling Competition across six states in Nigeria. Our competitions have featured over 4000 spellers in three years,” said Miss Akwejevu.
