Covenant University resumed academic activities on Wednesday, January 02, 2008 after a three-and-a-half week Shiloh/Christmas holiday break. The University campus started bubbling with live as early as 7 am when students, who were warmly received at their halls of residence by faculty and staff, started arriving with great excitement and expectations for the New Year.
In a welcome assembly organized at the University Chapel to usher staff and students into the New Year, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, led members of the University community in a praise and worship session to appreciate God for His sustenance and journey mercies during the break as well as thanking Him for His awesome help throughout last year that culminated into outstanding achievements for the University. The University community also prayed for God's continuous grace upon management, faculty, staff and students of Covenant University in the New Year.
In her welcome address at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, who welcomed the students on behalf of the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, Management, faculty and staff of the University, declared with enthusiasm that the Lord would give the University community a lot to smile about in the New Year, especially as God has declared prophetically through His servant and Chancellor of Covenant University, that this year we will all soar 'On the Eagles Wings.'
She went ahead to give a brief descriptions of the unique qualities of an Eagle bird and said it was not a mistake that Covenant University is in the business of releasing eagle leaders as graduates, adding that the prophesy was a clear signal of God's agenda for the University in 2008. She therefore urged every one to maximize the opportunity by positioning themselves to soar to greater heights in their respective endeavours.
Other Principal Officers of the University, including the Registrar, Yemi Nathaniel; the Dean of College of Human Development, Prof Charles Ogbulogo; the Dean of College of Science and Technology, Prof James Katende and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Daniel Rotimi also welcomed the student back on campus.
While praying for a successful year, the Associate Chaplain, Pastor James Muyiwa, who stood in for the University Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Macaulay, urged members of the University community to yield their hearts to God and observe His ways in order to enjoy His bumper blessings for the new year.
Meanwhile, lectures begin tomorrow, Thursday, January 03, 2008 while revisions for Alpha Semester examinations will commence next week.
