As the world marks the International Education Week (IEW) between November 13 and 17, 2006, Covenant University was enriched by a visit of the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the United States Consulate-General, Lagos of the US Embassy to its campus on Thursday November 16, 2006.

The visit, according to the PAS five-man team led by its Public Diplomacy Officer, Marylou Johnson-Pizarro, was part of its activities to celebrate this year’s IEW, a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education that promotes programmes that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

The members of the team, which also included Mrs Joke Omotunde, Information Specialist; Mrs Margaret Anyigbo, Education Advisor; Mrs Clara Fejokwu, Library Director, and Mrs Chineye Uwadileke, Cultural Affairs Assistant, said the visit was also aimed at exploring areas of linkage opportunities and other mutual relationship with the University as well as educating CU faculty and students of available educational opportunities in the United States, especially on the areas of scholarship such as Fulbright Fellowship.

During the visit, the PAS team had interactive sessions with the Management team, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, the Faculty and students. They also paid a courtesy call on the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo in his office.

Earlier in her remarks, Prof Obayan had commended US government on its efforts to foster durable linkage with CU and other similar institutions outside the US as way of promoting outstanding scholarship and research in the contemporary educational context.

She especially expressed appreciation to the PAS team for considering CU a very relevant platform in its linkage agenda to expanding the frontiers of scholarship.

The visitors who were obviously at home and delighted with the infrastructural development of the University campus, its quality staff, rich curriculum and faith-based connection, made book donations to the CU Library and students to broaden their horizons.

A similar team of senior officials of PAS was at CU about exactly a year ago to initiate the on-going blossoming relationship, essentially aimed at improving capacity building of faculty and students.
