Covenant University has been commended for its excellent performance in organizing world-class conferences and workshops.
The kudos was given to the University when it played host to a delegation from the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Ogun State chapter on January 17, 2007.
The delegation, which was led by the Chairman of the Association, Dr G. B. Eweniyi, said his association had been receiving positive feedback from participants of the various conferences and workshops hosted by the University, adding that they were in CU to intimate the Management that the University has been earmarked as venue for their forthcoming National Conference to be hosted by the Chapter in August 2007.
In the words of the CASSON Chairman, CU was chosen not only because of its beautiful and serene campus or its state-of-the art facilities but also on the account of the positive feedback the association received from participants of the various conferences and workshops hosted by the University.
Dr Eweniyi, who is also an Associate Professor of Counselling at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwo, said they were equally motivated to choose CU because it was the only University in the state with steady academic calendar, adding that the conference would complement and further popularize Counselling programme of the University.
In her remarks at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, who welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, commended the association for choosing the University as venue for the Conference.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also a Professor of Counselling, stressed the importance of counselling and human development as incorporated in the CU curriculum, saying that any nation, which failed to pay attention to its human development need, was not ready to move forward.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Registrar, Yemi Nathaniel, said counselling had taken a corporate dimension, adding that the nation’s leaders, at all levels of governance, need counselling in order to bring the country out of its present socio-political problems.
He said Covenant University has benefited from the rich professional background of a Counsellor, who is our Vice Chancellor and regretted that the import of the profession was not being appreciated in the country.
The occasion was also a sweet reunion between Prof Obayan and one of her students, Ms E. O. Alabi, the Treasurer of the association. Ms Alabi gave an emotional and heartwarming testimony of the mentoring impact of the Vice Chancellor on her life as a student of the University of Ilorin.
