One of the nation’s leading banks, the Zenith Bank Plc has indicated interest to partner with Covenant University in the area of ICT and recruitment of the University’s fresh graduates.
The Managing Director of the Bank, Mr Jim Ovia, who made this disclosure, recently, said the Management of his bank has approved the construction of an ICT Centre to be equipped with full Internet facilities at the University.
Mr Ovia said the decision to build the centre was in recognition and support of the University’s laudable initiatives and aspirations toward the enhancement of the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.
Consequently, on March 31, 2007, a 3-man team from the Bank paid a courtesy visit to the University to cement the partnership and also inspected the site for the Centre.
The leader of team, Mr Uche Oga, a senior manager of the bank, praised the University for the giant stride it has made in the context of higher education in Nigeria. He said Zenith Bank had observed the quality of CU graduates and therefore decided to also partner with it in the area of recruitment of best students of the University.
While receiving the team, the Registrar, Yemi Nathaniel, thanked the Management of Zenith Bank for the partnership initiative. He commended the bank for its innovativeness and steady growth in the industry.
The Dean of College of Science and Technology who stood in for Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, observed that ICT had flattened the world, making a less advanced country like India to consult for a bigger nation like the United States. He said Africa’s hope for true liberty would also depend on its ICT development.
Other members of Zenith Bank team included Mr. Lai Sosanya (Manager, Property) and Mr. Thomas Owoseni (Manager, Relationship).
